Mike had it easy on his first night on the road. He was around 25 miles beyond his goal for the first day, coming up on Little River, when he passed a large house with a pond and a covered gazebo. As rain was visible on the horizon, he stopped and asked the owner if he could sleep in the gazebo. In true Underground Railroad hospitable style, the owner offered Mike the use of the hunting cabin out back, which houses up to 24 people. So Mike spent his first night washing clothes in the clothes washer and eating frozen pizza. Not quite as rough as the escaped slaves had it, but certainly in the same spirit!
The situation brought to his mind, I Peter 4:9, "Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling." He was certainly happy to be the recipient of such hospitality after 60-plus miles on a bike. "I'm happy to provide others with the opportunity to be Biblical," he chuckled.
