Linden welcomes Mike

Mike began Wednesday with a little trouble -- a broken spoke on his wheel, but he got that repaired (thanks to a training session that his friends at Cumberland Transit in nashville gave him before he left) and ended up Wednesday in Linden, Ala. -- once again the beneficiary of Southern hospitality. He touched base with the preacher at Linden Church of Christ who offered to put him up for the night in a hotel. While talking with the preacher, a passerby heard his story and she invited Mike to come to dinner at the First Baptist Church of Linden, which has a weekly fellowship dinner on Wednesday nights.

Mary Kate at the Baptist church took a liking to Mike and she and all her friends asked him for autographs and insisted he sit with them at the fellowship dinner. Mary Kate is also a giving person, as she had donated 12 inches of her hair to Locks of Love that day. Both Mike and Mary Kate got their photos taken by the local newspaper.

So Mike was able to spread the word about his efforts to promote diversity by speaking with the youth group at the Baptist church after the meal and then later attending services at the Linden Church of Christ, where they also allowed him a few moments to explain his bicycle trek and why promoting greater diversity at Lipscomb is so important to him.
