Less than 2 weeks...

10 days from now I will be on my way. Lot to do before I leave Nashville. I'll be busy the next few days facilitating 400 residents making a mass exodus from High Rise to various summer destinations. First they have finals to get through. Lipscomb hosted my official "send off" today. Since I will begin my ride in Mobile, it's kind of hard to have a proper send off from Nashville, however it was very nicely done.

Here's a picture from the "Square Fair" hosted by our Multi-Cultural Department last week.

And here's a couple of pictures from my time with the Lipscomb Elementary 1st Graders last week.

Just 3 more weeks

Had a great 80 mile ride this week with the Harpeth Bike Club. It was full of challenging climbs as it was preparing the group for the upcoming 3S3M ride. This week also provided a great opportunity to promote the ride by talking to the Lipscomb 1st graders about bike safety.
Several people have asked about the route. Here is a copy of 1 of 68 sections of a map I will be using which is published by Adventure Cycling.

4 Weeks away

An okay week of biking, 175 miles. Kerwin E. and I rode 70 miles Saturday, mostly on the Natchez Trace. Early in the week we had a few bad weather days. As of now I am choosing not to ride on bad days but during the tour I will have to get use to bad weather.

5 weeks and counting...

A good week of training with about 200 miles on the road. I rode every day with a minimum of 25 miles per day. Yesterday I was reminded that this can be a dangerous activity. Mark, my riding buddy, went down in a pace line with one other person and both were injured pretty bad. Mark has a broken collar bone.

Today I rode with Andrew and Emily Harris. Andrew's first ride of more than 5 miles and he put in 25. Great job Andrew! Here's their picture riding through the Richland Creek Greenway.

Green Expo at Allen Arena

The booth we had at the Green Expo was a great success. Thanks to everyone who came by and showed interest in helping support diversity scholarships here at Lipscomb. Thanks also to all those who volunteered to work at the booth. Special thanks to Janel for putting it all together:)

UGRR Jersey

My new Underground Railroad jersey is in. I am ordering a Lipscomb jersey, but it will not be in until the last couple of weeks of the trip. In the meantime if you see this jersey out on the Nashville streets it will be me.
